With a span of 50 m over the Arga river, Oblatas bridge allows the integration of the San Juan and Mendebaldea suburbs in the main area of Pamplona. Its careful design tries to underline this will of social integration.
We have designed a bowstring concrete bridge made up of a central plane shell arch of 60 cm depth and with variable width increasing from the crown to the abutments, from which a stiff deck is suspended by two central planes of ties, directly anchored at the bottom of the stiff beam and to the upper face of the arch.
The harmony reached by the combination of arch and suspension ties, both composing parallel inclined planes, and the delicate details of the hinges and anchorages of the cables, result in a perception of the bridge by its users and the Pamplona population which is the one that corresponds to an urban, and useful sculpture.
The bridge was constructed on a scaffold. Using hydraulic jacks located at the key of the arch, the deck was lifted from the provisional supports and suspended from the arch.
