The basic typology of this structure, a wide skewed footbridge spanning 42 meters, is a self-anchored suspension bridge. With the deck suspended by inclined hangers clamped to two main cables fixed in the commercial building structure, and flying downwards to the opposite end of the deck, where they are anchored to the border girders. That is, the suspension cables separate in plan view from their common point near the Mall facade, to the end of the deck, once the trench has been overflied.
The main cables join at an elevated point over the deck, where a visible steelwork anchor piece, that we have named “Trianchorage” has been carefully designed. This piece materializes the axial force flow, showing clearly the force decomposition, and introducing in the building structure only tensile forces.
In this structure materials have been combined properly. The use of reinforced concrete in the deck, steel in the border box girders, and cables in the suspension system are an attractive element inviting the public to enter the building.
