The PCTCAN underground parking project is included within a series of urbanization works of the Scientific and Technological Park of Cantabria (PCTCAN), located on Santander’s suburbs.
Initially, the structure arose on a single constructive and investment phase. The car park had a signature configuration with inclined pillars and a central double-height vaulted ceiling allowing natural lighting. Construction began, but once the foundations were built, the economic juncture made the project to be paralyzed.
In 2014, the Cantabria’s Government takes up again the completion of parking. However, according to the modified document No. 2 PSIR (Regional Interest Singular Plan) PCTCAN, the urbanization conditions on the parking surface vary, allowing it to accommodate low-height buildings for endowments, services or commercial uses associated to the Technology Park.
In this sense, Arenas & Asociados optimizes the design of structure and facilities, to achieve a more competitive parking. Thus, it arises a simplified structure, adopting vertical pillars with 7.5 m type-galleries and an in-situ flat slab on top. Fdez. Rosillo Construction Company was responsible for the execution of the car park.
The parking is placed in the West area of PCTCAN. Its dimensions in plan are approximately 290 m long and 50 m wide, with a slightly curved directrix. The two-level underground structure has a height of 2.50 m on each storey. It accommodates a total of 903 car parking lots and 50 spaces for motorcycles.
